Figure skating: how it is set up and scored.

Figure skating is contested on an ice rink of 60 by 30 metres, as singles, pairs or ice dance. A competition has two segments, the short programme and the free skating, each skated to music within a set time. A judging panel awards a technical score for each element and component scores for skating skills and presentation, and the totals from both segments decide the placings. ISU rules apply, administered in Britain by British Ice Skating.

How a result is recorded.

There is no lineup to pick in figure skating. A coach records these for each athlete at every competition.
