Rowing formations and positions.
Rowing is raced by crews of one, two, four or eight, an eight carrying nine with its cox, over a straight course of 2000 metres marked into buoyed lanes. A regatta progresses through heats, repechages and semi-finals to a final, each a single side-by-side race. The result is the finishing order at the line, with times recorded for each crew. World Rowing Rules of Racing apply, administered in Britain by British Rowing.
