Sailing: how it is set up and scored.
Sailing races are contested by boats, crewed singly or in pairs or larger crews depending on the class, around a course of marks laid on open water. A regatta is a series of races, the number set by the notice of race, with each boat scoring points equal to its finishing place in each race. The lowest total after discards wins. The World Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing apply, administered in Britain by the RYA.
