Speed skating: how it is set up and scored.
Long track speed skating is an individual sport raced on a 400 metre oval with two lanes, skaters competing in pairs and changing lanes each lap on the back straight. Distances run from 500 to 10000 metres, each raced against the clock in a single run. The result is recorded as elapsed time to a hundredth of a second. ISU Speed Skating rules apply, administered in Britain by British Ice Skating.
