Triathlon: how it is set up and scored.
Triathlon is an individual sport combining three legs raced back to back: a swim, a bike ride and a run, with the clock running through both transitions. Standard distance is a 1500 metre swim, 40 kilometre bike and 10 kilometre run, with sprint and long distance variants. The result is recorded as the total elapsed time from the start of the swim to the finish of the run. World Triathlon Competition Rules apply, administered in Britain by British Triathlon.
